'You don't know the half of it'

This week we focused on finalising the way the photos will look when projected. Below you will be able to see the different ideas we were playing around with. The first image below is the original photo.  This is the original photo. We thought it might be a good idea to have a black background behind the person. We thought this would correspond with the atmosphere in the room.  We then decided that the bright colours on the black background might be a bit too much so we decided to make the image black and white. We then brought this image back into photoshop and cut out the black and white version of the person and put it on a black background. We also paid attention to the framing of the image here and found this is what we aim to do. We want a close up shot of the person.  We tried blurring the background. We decided we didn't want to completely blur it so you couldn't see colours so we liked the middle range blur so you could still see some sort of...

The time came where we had to finalise our idea, we done a bit more experimentation with how we were going to present this project. We created different masks to decide which was appropriate, we made a paper mâché mask, a cardboard one, a black one and a white one. From this we decided that none of these were going to work for us but another idea stemmed from this. We decided that we were going to invest in proper masks to achieve a more professional look, and instead of just writing peoples social masks on the outside of the face, we were also going to get candidates to write on the inside of the mask emotions that they really feel and wish to hide behind the mask. Idea Change 19/11/2018 After speaking with our supervisor Sinead we decided to change our idea. We were still struggling to describe our message, we were hoping to highlight differences and show that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. It was always a long winded spiel though and we struggled to communicate what our message was. We have reached out to Noah, he is a transgender male and founder of This Is Me trans health foundation. He is willing to share his story with us.  We were all excited to explore gender. After speaking with Sinead she thought it might be more interesting to focus on Noah and gender identity. From this we have began researching and educating ourselves on the topic. We are planning to do a documentary and educate ourselves and others on gender identity.

This week we all sat down and discussed with Sinead and Siobhan how we are going to turn our project into a campaign, as we discussed this, we again decided that maybe this wasn't the best way to present our project. If we were to create a campaign, we would have to provide our views with resources and information on how to deal with these issues, and we felt that this isn't what we want our project to be about. We also started to reach out to different people and communities that we would like to work with during this process, people who we would like to hear and share their stories. We started off by messaging a number of drag queens from the Dublin area to see if they would like to share their story with us, so far we have only gotten one reply and they apologised as they had to decline due to other commitments. Progress: This week we were focusing on our prototype ideas for our presentation. In a few weeks we will have a working prototype for our group. It will convey what our final project will look like by the end of the year. This week we were brainstorming different ideas for how we would go about making our working prototype. We decided on Monday that an interactive magazine idea would be too broad for our chosen theme and idea therefore, we decided to change our final or prototype to be a campaign. It will include a website that will have a range of different media for example; our interviews and visuals through the use of graphics that we will design ourselves using illustrator. We will also create a social media account too and have them all linked to one another.           We all signed a contract for our group on Monday. Week 2 This week we discovered  we have to create a mock presentation. Third year students who had done the project last year came in to talk to us. They showed us their project and talked us through their process.  At the start of the week we were unsure of a theme, we knew we wanted to do something with beauty but that was a very vague topic and we weren't sure what route to go down. After some discussion w e decided to go with the theme "You don't know the half of it". We all talked about what possible mediums we wanted to do. After seeing a project done by a group of third years last year we decided we definitely wanted to do a website.  Isabel did research on the theme, she researched information on the effects of beauty brands on the environment, Eva made a mock up website, Nicole did a magazine cover and Esmee did a photo essay. This week we formed our group! Our Group members are Esmee, Eva, Isabel, Kira and Nicole. We were first given a talk by our lecturer's about the Project Topic. We began to brainstorm our ideas together and write them down. We discussed each other's individual concept boards to the topic.  We got to brainstorm our ideas with our group project supervisors. It was really interesting to hear everybody else's take on the topic.  We decided to discuss Nicole's topic of communication and how it has changed over time. We also liked Eva's idea of fashion.  After listening to our classmates idea's we decided that Nicole's idea of communication was fairly similar to the other team's projects. We wanted to do something completely different. We also found out that another team was playing off the topic of fashion. This made us reevaluate our ideas.
